How try-then-buy works

What red light is

Red light sessions use low-level LED light: visible red (about 620–680 nm) and near-infrared (about 800–1,100 nm). There's very little heat. The light has been researched for decades under the name "photobiomodulation"; research is still developing, and a session is not a medical treatment.

What people use it for

How a session works

  1. Questionnaire. A short suitability check before your first visit.
  2. Goggles & positioning. We show you the room and how the bed works.
  3. About 20 minutes of light within your 30-minute slot.
  4. Notes in your portal. Your session is recorded in your client portal.

Evidence, honestly

Red and near-infrared light have been studied for many years. Some research into cosmetic skin outcomes is promising, but it's still developing, studies vary in quality, and experiences differ from person to person. We don't make health claims, and a light session is no substitute for medical care or SPF.

Red light FAQs

What is red light therapy and how does a session feel?

It's a session under low-level red and near-infrared LED light. Most people describe it as calm and gently warm.

What's the difference between red and near-infrared light?

Red light is visible (around 620–680 nm). Near-infrared (around 800–1,100 nm) is just beyond what the eye can see. Our bed uses red and near-infrared LEDs, including 850 nm and 1060 nm.

Is it the same as an infrared sauna or a sunbed?

No. The bed uses red and near-infrared LEDs, including 850 nm and 1060 nm, and gives only minimal heat compared with a sauna.

How long is a session at the Harlow clinic, and what should I wear?

You book a 30-minute slot with about 20 minutes of light; the bed switches off 5 minutes before the end. You can undress to your comfort level in a private room.

Do I need to wear goggles?

Yes. We provide goggles. Never look directly into the LEDs.

Who should check with their GP first?

Anyone who is pregnant, takes medication that increases light sensitivity (some antibiotics, retinoids, St John's Wort: ask your pharmacist), has epilepsy or light sensitivity, a skin condition, a recent procedure, or a history of skin cancer.

Can under-18s use it?

Not without medical advice, and not in clinic without a parent or guardian and a note from their GP.

How often do people book sessions?

It varies. Some people book weekly, others occasionally. We'll talk through what fits your routine, with no pressure to buy packages.
