Red light FAQs
Red light FAQs
What is red light therapy and how does a session feel?
It's a session under low-level red and near-infrared LED light. Most people describe it as calm and gently warm.
What's the difference between red and near-infrared light?
Red light is visible (around 620–680 nm). Near-infrared (around 800–1,100 nm) is just beyond what the eye can see. Our bed uses red and near-infrared LEDs, including 850 nm and 1060 nm.
Is it the same as an infrared sauna or a sunbed?
No. The bed uses red and near-infrared LEDs, including 850 nm and 1060 nm, and gives only minimal heat compared with a sauna.
How long is a session at the Harlow clinic, and what should I wear?
You book a 30-minute slot with about 20 minutes of light; the bed switches off 5 minutes before the end. You can undress to your comfort level in a private room.
Do I need to wear goggles?
Yes. We provide goggles. Never look directly into the LEDs.
Who should check with their GP first?
Anyone who is pregnant, takes medication that increases light sensitivity (some antibiotics, retinoids, St John's Wort: ask your pharmacist), has epilepsy or light sensitivity, a skin condition, a recent procedure, or a history of skin cancer.
Can under-18s use it?
Not without medical advice, and not in clinic without a parent or guardian and a note from their GP.
How often do people book sessions?
It varies. Some people book weekly, others occasionally. We'll talk through what fits your routine, with no pressure to buy packages.
Can I try a home device before buying?
That's our plan. Home devices aren't on sale yet; when they are, you'll be able to try them in clinic first, and the session fee will be credited towards a device bought within 30 days (terms to be published).
Which device is right for me?
Our device finder and comparison chart will help once devices launch. Until then, ask us at your session.
What do the irradiance numbers mean, and how do you measure them?
Irradiance is the light reaching you in mW/cm². We'll measure every device we sell with our own spectrometer at 15, 30 and 45 cm and publish the method and date.
What certifications do your devices have?
Every device page will list its certificates (UKCA/CE, IEC 62471 risk group, RoHS) and our WEEE registration.
What warranty and returns do I get?
Your statutory rights, including 14 days to cancel a distance purchase, plus a clear warranty table on each device page. We'll state who pays return postage.
Can I collect my device from the clinic?
Click-and-collect from Harlow and a set-up call are planned for when devices launch.
How does the client portal track my sessions?
Your session notes and bookings appear in your private client portal.
Can I combine red light with a PEMF or frequency session?
Yes. Many clients book a light session alongside a frequency or PEMF session. Ask us and we'll plan the visit.
Is red light therapy a medical treatment?
No. It's a general wellness experience. Please see your GP about any medical concern.
